This MBA and advanced undergraduate text focuses on managing information technology within organizational settings. Following an introduction to IT, hardware, software, and networking, examples are presented of three major types of IT applications: organizational systems, managerial support systems, and e-commerce applications. Methodologies for developing, purchasing, and implementing systems are described, and alternative approaches to planning and managing IT resources and the information system itself are discussed. Some 25 case studies illustrating issues unique to IT management are included at the end of each section, consisting of camouflaged but real situations as well as case studies of major multinational firms. This fourth edition contains rewritten material on e-commerce applications and a new chapter on IT project management. The author is affiliated with the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
