Description

This study of political meritocracy in China begins by discussing four flaws of Western-style democracy and elections, such as the tyranny of the majority and the tyranny of competitive individualists. The author then examines advantages of political meritocracy as practiced in China and recommends ways in which China could improve its meritocratic system, by allowing more women leaders, for example. The book goes on to examine three problems associated with implementing political meritocracy, such as abuse of power. The author concludes by explaining how to maximize the advantages and minimize the disadvantages of political meritocracy. An appendix offers an email and interview dialogue between the author and a political official in China. The book is for readers in political science and China studies.
