Although it contains new chapters on clinical trials and antibody therapy, and other chapters have been substantially rewritten, this third edition comprehensive reference essentially retains the arrangement of the first two editions (1992 & 1996). Sixty-eight contributions are arranged in sections on principles (scientific foundations of chemotherapy, and routes of administration); drugs; management of drug toxicity; drug administration; current therapy of specific solid tumors; and chemotherapy of hematologic malignancies. The appendices contain information on chemotherapy programs and on common toxicity criteria. Editor Perry (U. of Columbia School of Medicine and the Ellis Fishel Cancer Center in Columbia, Missouri) cites as his personal favorite the chapter on investigational drugs, which reviews work on new agents tomorrow's chemotherapy. Contributors are from all over the US. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
