The third edition of this comprehensive, clearly organized text was published in 1996, so this fourth edition was no doubt essential to keep information up to date. Short chapters of one to three pages are devoted to each of 230 diseases and conditions; and another 100 or so chapters treat subjects pertaining to behavior, dentistry, surgery, cytology, imaging, and clinical procedures. The format is consistent throughout, each presentation beginning with objective, diagnosis, and treatment, and ending with prognosis and suggested readings. Numerous photos and other images support the text. Editor Norsworthy (College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State U.) is also one of five founding authors--their work augmented by contributions from about 75 veterinarians based mostly in the US, with a handful from countries in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere.
