As one of several new International Energy Agency (IEA) end-use studies, this report examines the role of technologies and policies in transforming the way energy is used to be more sustainable. Because transport accounts for roughly 25 percent of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide and energy use is growing in this sector, the IEA has set a target of a 50 percent improvement by 2030 in CO2 emissions for new light-duty vehicles. The agency emphasizes that such a reduction requires technological advances in engine and non-engine components as well as improved urban transit systems. Chapters include energy use scenarios, trend data, cost-benefit analyses, and color illustrations. The IEA was established within the framework of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development in 1974. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
