To address the challenges presented by the rising tide of stress-related disorders, J. (CEO of a research organization in Trier, Germany) and D. Hellhammer (psychobiology, Trier U.) introduce the concept of "neuropattern." Neuropatterns is a new diagnostic method for characterizing the interactive functioning of the endocrine and autonomic nervous system as they adapt/maladapt to stress. In the context of the (U.S.) National Institute's of Health roadmap to translational research from the lab to the bedside, they summarize recent contributions from genetics, behavioral neurobiology, and neurobehavioral medicine, and diagnostic criteria based on neuropatterns. A few other contributors (whose credentials are not supplied) discuss the physiology and symptoms of stress disorders. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
