This volume presents the results of one of three related North Atlantic Treaty Organization Advanced Research Workshops held in September 2006 under the general theme of "Understanding and Responding to Terrorism: A Multi-dimensional Approach," which was organized by the Turkish Institute for Police Studies, with the support of NATO and the Turkish National Police. The workshop presented here had the more specific theme of "Policing Responses to Terrorist Operations" and focused on three main topics: the role of international organizations in combating terrorism, individual countries' legislative efforts and respective law enforcement agencies' approaches to combating terrorism, and evaluation of response and recovery operations after terrorist attacks and lessons for homeland security policies and procedures and integration of crisis and consequence management activities.
