A particularly carefully designed, rigorous work for generalists, specialists, and subspecialists in medicine and surgery. Generalists will be able to look up most of the medical problems they encounter, including the problems that are often seen by specialists, while the specialists can look up problems that are directly or indirectly related to their work. The volume is divided into sections which are devoted to disorders of the bodily systems (e.g. renal disorders) or to disease states (e.g. neoplastic diseases). The sections are divided into chapters dealing with a particular condition or presenting problem. The chapters are arranged with unchanging headings: criteria for diagnosis, clinical manifestations, plans, discussion, and references. This edition (second was 1988) is thoroughly revised, substantially rewritten, and adds many new topics. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
