Henry (science studies unit, U. of Edinburgh, UK) surveys the historical literature of the origins and achievements of the Scientific Revolution of the 16th and 17th centuries. Although this is mostly just a survey work, he doesn't shy away from drawing conclusions or making arguments. He is largely sympathetic with many of newer "revisionist" historians who insist that there is less of clear demarcation between science and alchemy than has previously been supposed and who suggest that the empiricism might not have been quite as empirical as its practitioners claimed.
