The two authors are both primary participants in the non-profit Center for Civil War Photography: Zeller is co-founder and president; Richter, director of imaging and board member, is also a leading private collector of stereo photographs from the period. They have brought together 180 stereo photographs housed by the Library of Congress and in private collections. The images are presented full page, and the accompanying text is concise and engaging. The prolog is by Harold Holzer of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book invites lingering and could conceivably make a Civil War buff (or a photography buff) out of a youngster; and it will no doubt delight full-grown aficionados. The format is horizontal: 11x9.25". 3-d glasses are included. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
