Events defined as terrorism from Jan 1996 to December 2001 are listed. Nearly half of the second volume consists of updates to earlier editions covering the period 1969-1995. Although claiming a comprehensive definition of terrorism as "the use or threat of use of violence by any individual or group for political purposes," the compilers of this chronology have selected events that conform exactly to the ideological dictates of American power. For example, even though the AUC (the Colombian right-wing paramilitary forces linked to the American aided military) is listed by the U.S. State Department as a terrorist organization and is known to be responsible for the majority of deaths in that country's 30 year civil war, coverage of Colombia is nearly 100 percent devoted to the activities of the left-wing guerilla forces the U.S. is attempting to eliminate.
