In this text for a BSN-level course, Sitzman (nursing, Weber State University) and Eichelberger (College of Health, Clayton State University) invite students into concepts of nursing theory through the entryway of art. The first section of the text introduces theory in nursing and tells how to evaluate a theory. The rest of the book presents sections on theories that define nursing in a general sense, theories about broad nursing practice areas, theories about specific nursing actions and processes, and theories that defy classification. Each section employs a visual metaphor--pointillism, mandala art, origami, and space photography--that students can use to envision the theories. Chapter activities involve visual, tactile and kinesthetic exercises, as well as web research and written reflections. The text includes a section of color illustrations and photos. This second edition covers three new 'theories that defy classification.' A companion web site offers an interactive glossary, animated flashcards, origami instructions, a theory art gallery, and quizzes. Faculty resources on the web site include sample syllabi, PowerPoint slides, a test bank, and discussion questions and answers. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
