These papers are the culmination of a study initiated by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and conducted by the Committee on Occupational Health and Safety in the Care and Use of Nonhuman Primates. The report reflects the Committee's identification of major hazards and risks at different institutions. The chapters cover the use of nonhuman primates in research, education and testing; potential zoonotic hazards; noninfectious hazards; and regulations. The Committee makes recommendations for risk assessment and management, training, use of protective equipment and medical management of exposed workers.
