The systems approach, a traditional way to analyze mechanical components of an organization, has been recently adapted to managing emotional, relational systems. An underlying theme of this anthology is the advantage of considering educational issues from a systems perspective. The systems approach to leadership is presented in the introductory essay and reinforced throughout the book's 39 readings on perspectives, contexts, and challenges in education administration. Some topics examined are organizational culture, the impact of accountability legislation, and the balance between central authority and site-based autonomy. Each issue is examined with three to five readings representing multiple viewpoints, authored by organizational leaders, scholars, reporters, and consultants. Issue chapters are framed by introductions and summaries. Critical thinking questions and suggestions for additional reading and websites are included. Munro is affiliated with Chestnut Hill College.
