This report replaces the periodic revisions of the National Research Council's Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). The new Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) are quantitative estimates of nutrient intakes to be used in assessing and planning diets for healthy people. This work provides statistical and theoretical underpinnings for using DRIs in assessing dietary intake, offers guidance to nutrition and health research professionals for applications of the DRIs in dietary assessment of individuals and groups, and gives many examples to demonstrate the application of each of the DRIs.
