A revised and updated (4th edition, 1989) introduction to neurologic medicine for students and residents, emphasizing the presentation of observed clinical phenomena, along with the underlying physiologic and pathologic changes, rather than new discoveries in biologic science. In contrast to the standard textbooks of neurology, in which the many diseases of the nervous system are described in succession, the present text introduces the subject with a discussion of the phenomenology, or cardinal manifestations, of neurologic disease. This is followed by an account of the various syndromes of which these symptoms are a part, and this, in turn, by a consideration of the diseases that express themselves by each syndrome.
