Introduces the application of complex-image analysis technology to target identification. This technology replaces mathematically-based processing methods with an expert system approach that uses pattern recognition or interpretation. The approach windows image responses generated by either a single scatterer or by two scatterers, These responses are modeled by two interfering point scatterers. The validity of the model is then checked, and a measurement uncertainty is assigned that depends on how well the real situation approximates the model. The book concentrates on the measurements that provide the inputs for target identification, rather than on the actual identification process. Individual chapters consider the problem of identifying aircraft, ground vehicles, and ships, with an indication of how these methods can be applied to missiles, rockets, and satellites.
