The report summarizes a June 2007 workshop that reviewed the application of a public health approach to preventing violence--especially interpersonal violence--in countries with low and middle counties. The two days of talks were not deemed sufficient for a comprehensive investigation, and the views expressed are not to be construed as recommendations from the Institute of Medicine. Among the themes taken up are why the world should care about violence prevention, what is working around the world to prevent violence, scaling up international support, and opportunities and challenges for US agencies and organizations. The background papers for the meeting are appended. There is no index. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
