The 21 essays of this catalogue provide an account of the life of the Egyptian ruler; the arts, sculpture, and tombs produced during her reign; the destruction of her works and memory after her death and rediscovery in the 19th century. Published to accompany a traveling exhibition held at the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth in 2005-2006, the oversize (9.25x12.25") volume is heavily illustrated with the superb color and b&w plates typical of this publisher. Groundplans, elevations, and historical views are included of the tombs discussed; color photos and detailed catalogue entries showcase 200 works of stone, glass, wood, bronze, faience, and other materials that appeared in the exhibition. Roehrig is curator at the Met; the co-editors are Renée Dreyfus (curator, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco) and Cathleen A. Keller (near eastern studies, U. of California, Berkeley.)
