In this report of a two-year study, researchers describe just how far the US has come toward technological literacy and offer a number of recommendations for school children (as in the No Child Left Behind Act) and for adults in the workplace. They define technological literacy and methods to assess it, show how assessment is such a design challenge, give an assessment primer, review the instruments, give five sample cases (a state-wide grade assessment, a matrix-sample assessment of seventh graders, a national sample assessment of teachers, assessments for broad populations and of those visiting museums and other informal learning institutions), computer-based assessment methods, and findings and recommendations. They include a well-chosen bibliography. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
