ISBN: 0071746269 / Publisher: McGraw Hill / Medical, June 2011
The cases gathered here are intended to complement the eighth edition of Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach, a text for students and clinicians. This edition of the casebook contains 152 patient cases and a new first section on principles of patient-focused therapy, covering patient communication, care planning, documentation, pediatrics and geriatrics, palliative care, and chemical exposure. The section on complementary and alternative therapies has been redesigned. Cases are organized according to 16 organ systems, corresponding to the parent text, and include objectives, patient presentation and symptoms, case questions, self-study assignments, and clinical pearls, along with b&w photos and medical images. Uncomplicated cases require only a single textbook chapter, while the most complicated cases require knowledge of multiple textbook chapters and additional readings. The book includes 20 pages of reference appendices, plus sample responses to case questions. Schwinghammer is chair of the department of clinical pharmacy at West Virginia University. Koehler is chair of the department of pharmacy practice at Butler University. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
