Sustained protest from human rights, social justice, and environmental campaigns has forced the leaders of the world's dominant international institutions to rhetorically concede the need for accountability. The World Bank's reforms included the institution of an Inspection Panel, designed to respond directly to grievances from citizens of developing countries regarding social and environmental impacts of World Bank-funded projects.
