An empirical, clinical, and theoretic discussion of the presentations, differential diagnosis, and nosology of dementia. It advances a spectrum approach to the dementias each dementing illness involving an array of varied but related presentation, that form a continuous series. The contributors present new material, integrate what is known, and point to future work needed to clarify fundamental relationships between the dementias.
