Noting that the existing textbooks on health care finances were about accounting and institutional detail, Gapenksi (health services administration and finance, U. of Florida) set out to produce one that focuses on analysis and decision making. He takes a broad definition of the health services industry, and identifies the environmental factors that are unique to it and so make financial management in it different from corporate finance. The text is for a graduate course; most students have had some background in basic business topics, but a great deal of background is supplied. The included disk contains spreadsheet files from the chapters, and a list of Web sites cited. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
