We have only a few years to go in the 20th century, and books on the subject are beginning to come in (they'll need some updating by the time the century really ends). This highly visual survey the graphics are the strong feature is arranged in five broad sections covering the end of the old world order, between the wars, the world wars, the cold war, the new world order, and cultural and technological themes. Photos, maps, and charts dominate every page, accompanied by captions and thematic, encyclopedia-type essays. A detailed chronological chart identifies significant events by region; and the glossary contains brief descriptions of important events and people as well as explanations of some terms.
