An excellent history of (chiefly) passenger power. Hollingsworth features those engines that introduced technical advances. He necessarily deals mostly with Britain and the U.S. (Hundreds of lucid colored line-drawings emphasize the almost effete refinement of the UK products as against the brutish U.S. locomotives with their pipes, tanks, cylinders and wheels exposed to view). A great bargain, 'tho lacking an index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
