Sm 4to hardcover with brown paper boards and a dark brown cloth back. xii + 72 + [2] pp. Fold-out plates XI, XII,and XIII, and two unnumbered engravings in rear. A fair reading copy. Exlibrary with one inch call number label to lower left corner of front board, bookplate "Scientific Library United States Patent Office" to front pastedown, "Patent Office Library" blind stamped to title page, call number penciled twice on reverse of title page, and "26,655" in blue pencil to reverse of title page. Illegible previous owner's name in ink to top right edge of front board, and quarter-inch label to top left corner. Spine cloth lacking, and remnants on boards chipped. Boards detached, with top spine-side corner of both boards chipped, corners scraped and edges skinned. Front free endpaper and half title loose. Spine broken between pages 16 and 17, 40 and 41, and 64 and 65. Appears plates I-X lacking between pages 64 and 65. The ink of the fold-out plates has created light brown shadows on adjacent sheets.
